Preparation for eyelid surgery begins with a consultation. During this meeting, we discuss the goals and expected outcomes of the operation. Dr. Mata evaluates the patient's eyelids and facial features, takes measurements, and recommends a customized treatment plan. He also reviews medical history and current medications to determine potential risks and whether the person is a good candidate.
If cleared for surgery, the patient receives preoperative instructions: temporarily stopping certain medications that increase bleeding risk, arranging transportation, and stocking up on cold compresses, gauze, eye lubricant, and other supplies for post-surgery wound care. Additional tasks include getting lab tests done, avoiding alcohol and tobacco products, and planning to take at least 1-2 weeks off from work or strenuous activities to allow proper healing.
