Frequently Asked
Questions, Answered
The answers patients reach for most often — across consultations, surgery, recovery, financing, travel, and what happens after you go home.
01
Consultation & Quotes
How consultations work, what to expect, and how we price your procedure.
How much does a consultation cost?+
Three options depending on what you need. An in-person consultation with Dr. Mata at the Scottsdale office is $500. A virtual consultation with Dr. Mata over secure video is $300. A free virtual orientation with a Patient Care Coordinator is also available — a good starting point for general questions about procedures, financing, and how the practice works. The PCC call doesn't replace meeting Dr. Mata; it's a friction-free way to get oriented before booking the medical consult.
Is my consultation in person or virtual?+
Either. Local patients typically come into our Scottsdale office for an in-person consult ($500). Out-of-town patients meet Dr. Mata over secure video first ($300) — most don't fly in until the surgical plan and quote are confirmed. The free PCC orientation is virtual only.
What should I bring to my consultation?+
A list of your goals, any prior medical or surgical records relevant to the area you're addressing, current medications, and reference photos if you have them. We'll take standardized photos at the visit and review them with you on screen.
How long does a consultation take?+
Plan for 60–90 minutes. Dr. Mata spends as long as you need — there's no rushed or salesy feel. You'll meet the surgical coordinator and the patient educator the same day.
How do you build my quote?+
Pricing reflects surgeon fee, anesthesia, facility, and post-op care for your specific plan. Numbers are provided privately at the consultation. The Instant Quote Tool can give you a starting range before you book.
Can I get a quote before I commit to a consultation?+
Yes — use our Instant Quote Tool from any procedure page. It returns a price range based on the procedure and a few sizing questions. The exact figure is finalized at consultation.
02
Surgery & Anesthesia
Where Dr. Mata operates, who's in the room, and how anesthesia is handled.
Where do you operate?+
All surgical procedures take place at our AAAASF-accredited surgical suite at the Scottsdale facility. Same-day discharge is the default — most patients recover at a partner hotel rather than a hospital.
Who administers anesthesia?+
A board-certified MD anesthesiologist or CRNA is present for every surgery. Most procedures use general anesthesia. A small subset (e.g., minor revisions, some male-enhancement injections) can be done under local with sedation.
How long will the procedure take?+
It depends on the plan. A standalone breast augmentation runs ~1.5–2 hours. A full mommy makeover or Scottsdale Skinny is typically 4–6 hours. The surgical coordinator gives you an exact estimate when scheduling.
Will I have visible scars?+
Dr. Mata places incisions where they hide naturally — within the breast crease, around the areola, inside the umbilicus, low on the abdomen. Scars fade considerably over the first year and we provide a scar-care protocol.
Do you operate on patients with a high BMI?+
We have safe upper-BMI thresholds that vary by procedure. For some patients we recommend addressing weight first; for others we proceed with modifications. Dr. Mata reviews this candidly during the consult.
03
Recovery & Timeline
What healing looks like, and how long until you're back to normal.
When can I return to work?+
Desk work: usually 5–7 days for breast or facial procedures, 10–14 days for body contouring. Physical/active work: typically 4–6 weeks. We give you a procedure-specific return-to-activity calendar.
When can I exercise again?+
Light walking starts the next day to support circulation. Cardio resumes around week 3. Lifting and high-impact work waits until week 6, sometimes longer for procedures that involve abdominal or chest muscle repair.
How much pain should I expect?+
Most patients describe day 1–3 as the most uncomfortable, well-managed by a multimodal pain plan that minimizes opioids. By week 1, the dominant feeling is tightness and fatigue rather than pain.
When will I see my final result?+
Initial results show in the first weeks once swelling drops. Body contouring continues to refine for 3–6 months as tissue settles. Breast and facial results are essentially settled by 3 months.
Will I have drains or compression garments?+
Most body contouring procedures use drains for 3–7 days and a compression garment for several weeks. Breast procedures don't typically use drains. Specifics are reviewed in your pre-op visit.
04
Financing & Insurance
Payment options, lender partners, and what insurance does and doesn't cover.
Do you offer financing?+
Yes — we work with CareCredit, Prosper Healthcare Lending, Alphaeon Credit, and PatientFi. Pre-qualification takes ~60 seconds with a soft credit pull that doesn't impact your score. See the full breakdown on our Financing page.
Do you accept insurance?+
Most cosmetic plastic surgery is not covered by insurance. Functional procedures — breast reduction, deviated-septum repair, panniculectomy after weight loss — sometimes qualify. Our team helps you submit pre-authorization where it applies.
Is a deposit required to schedule?+
Yes — most surgical plans require a deposit (typically 10% of the procedure cost) to lock in your surgery date. The remainder is due before surgery and can be split across financing partners if desired.
Can I combine cash and financing?+
Yes. Many patients pay a portion upfront and finance the rest. This usually reduces total interest paid and the monthly payment.
05
Out-of-Town Logistics
Travel, accommodations, and how the concierge program supports you.
How long will I be in Scottsdale?+
3–5 days for small procedures, 7–10 for medium, 10–14 for large. Your surgical coordinator confirms the exact range. Detailed breakdown lives on our Out-of-Town Patients page.
Which airport should I fly into?+
Phoenix Sky Harbor (PHX) is the primary option — most flights, easiest car service. Scottsdale Airport (SDL) is closer to our facility but smaller, mostly private/charter.
Do I need a caregiver?+
Yes — for the first 24–48 hours someone needs to be with you. If you can't bring a companion, we can arrange licensed at-hotel nursing care for that window.
Where do I stay during recovery?+
We have negotiated rates at vetted hotel partners within ten minutes of the facility. Properties are recovery-friendly: kitchenettes, blackout curtains, on-site dining, easy ground-floor access.
How does post-op follow-up work after I fly home?+
Dr. Mata personally clears you for travel before you leave. After that, we continue follow-ups via secure video at weeks 2, 6, and 3 months. You can always come back for in-person if you prefer.
06
Post-Op Care
What we provide after surgery, and how to reach us when something doesn't feel right.
Who do I call if something doesn't feel right?+
Our team is reachable 24/7 in the first 14 days after surgery via a dedicated post-op line. After hours and on weekends, calls route to the on-call nurse who can reach Dr. Mata directly.
How many follow-ups will I have?+
Standard cadence is days 1–2, 7, 14, 6 weeks, and 3 months. Larger procedures or complications add visits. Out-of-town patients do most follow-ups by video after the in-person clearance.
Do you offer lymphatic massage?+
Yes — and it's strongly recommended for liposuction, mommy makeover, and BBL patients. We refer to a vetted partner studio that's familiar with our protocols.
What about scar care?+
Once incisions are fully closed (typically week 3), we move you onto silicone sheeting and a scar-care regimen. We use SkinMedica products in-clinic and have take-home kits available.
