An Introduction

A brow lift, sometimes called a forehead lift, elevates a descended brow to a more youthful position. The procedure addresses heavy brows, deep horizontal forehead lines, vertical lines between the eyes, and the tired or angry appearance that a low brow can create — without the over-lifted look of older techniques.

01
Our Approach

Endoscopic Technique

Dr. Mata performs most brow lifts using the endoscopic technique — small incisions hidden in the hairline with a tiny camera used to visualize and lift the brow. This approach minimizes scarring, preserves sensation, and shortens recovery compared to traditional open brow lift techniques.

For patients with very low brows or significant skin excess, a limited open technique may produce a better result. The right approach is decided at consultation based on your specific anatomy.

02
Surgery vs. Injectables

When to Consider Surgery

Botox can subtly lift the brow by releasing the muscles that pull it down — an effective early intervention for most patients. However, Botox has limits: it typically produces only a millimeter or two of lift, and it can't address true brow descent or excess forehead skin.

Surgery is the right answer when: your brow sits low enough to crowd the upper eyelid, you have deep forehead lines that Botox softens only temporarily, or you've reached the limits of what injectables can do.

03
Often Combined With

Companion Procedures

Brow lifts are often combined with upper eyelid surgery — the two procedures address adjacent areas and the combined recovery is essentially the same as either alone. When both the brow is descended and the upper lid is hooded, doing them separately often disappoints.

Many patients also schedule Botox and laser resurfacing for the forehead 3–6 months after surgery, to refine the result and address fine lines that surgery alone doesn't fully resolve.

Candidacy

Is This Right For You?

You may be a candidate if...
  • Brow descent causing heaviness or tired appearance
  • Deep horizontal forehead lines unresponsive to Botox
  • Vertical lines between the eyes that fillers can't fully address
  • Generally healthy, non-smoker
  • Realistic expectations about subtle restoration
This may not be right if...
  • Significant hair loss (scar camouflage more difficult)
  • Active smokers unable to quit for 6 weeks before and after
  • Early brow descent better addressed by Botox

Candidacy is ultimately a conversation. Dr. Mata will determine the right path at consultation.

Frequently Asked

Common Questions

01Will I look surprised or over-lifted?+

Not with proper technique. The surprised look comes from elevating the brow too much or over-arching the outer portion. Dr. Mata's goal is restoration to your natural young position — subtle, not dramatic.

02Can Botox just do this instead?+

For early brow descent, yes — a properly placed Botox treatment can lift the brow a few millimeters. But Botox has real limits: it doesn't address excess skin, can't produce more than minor lift, and has to be repeated every 3–4 months. Surgery is the right tool for established descent.

03Will the scars be visible?+

With endoscopic technique, scars are about an inch long and hidden in the hairline — essentially invisible once healed. With open technique, the scar follows the hairline and is similarly hidden when hair is styled normally.

04How does this compare to a facelift?+

Different areas. Brow lift addresses the forehead and eyebrow area; facelift addresses the midface, jawline, and neck. They can be combined for comprehensive facial rejuvenation, but they're distinct procedures solving different anatomic problems.
