Laughing, smiling, crying, and squinting are all everyday facial movements that gradually cause your forehead to develop unwanted furrows, wrinkles, and lines. This, coupled with the inevitable effects of aging, can create forehead lines that lead to a tired, worn look that robs you of your confidence in social and business situations. However, through a brow lift procedure by Scottsdale, AZ board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Carlos Mata, a.k.a. Dr. Scottsdale®, men, and women with aging facial skin can restore a smooth, fresh look of youthfulness to their appearance. A brow lift can provide you with a healthy, new look that revitalizes your appearance and rejuvenates your self-esteem.
Implants can supplement a lift based on the patient’s aesthetic goals. If you desire or need enlargement, you may have a breast enlargement conducted at the same time as your breast lift, which is particularly helpful in filling out the upper portions of your breast. Brow Lift Surgical Techniques

The surgical techniques used for a brow lift procedure vary depending on the severity of the skin laxity, the skin condition, and the hairline location. These are the different types of incisions and techniques used:

Eyebrow Incision

This surgical technique places the incision along the natural upper brow’s hairline. The focus is to trim away excess skin and tighten the remaining skin & underlying tissues to create a rejuvenated facial appearance. The weak tissues will be reattached to the brow bone by sutures. This treatment doesn’t resolve any issues of wrinkles on the upper forehead. This procedure is great for male patients as they have more hair so the scar is easily concealed. This procedure is done in our Scottsdale, AZ office.

Lateral Brow Lift

Lateral brow lift aka temporal brow lift targets the outer third of the eyebrow. It changes the shape of the brow to give a more youthful and attractive look. The incision is made within the temporal hairline and will be hidden by the hair. Dr. Carlos Mata will use different tightening techniques to accomplish the lift you want. Candidates for this procedure are patients that need low to moderate lift. The lateral brow lift is performed in our Scottsdale, AZ surgical office.

Skin / Forehead Incision

The incision is made on the top part of the forehead right at the hairline. The incision is less extensive and smaller than a coronal lift. The goal of this procedure is to treat the brows and forehead skin by raising the soft tissue and skin of the forehead and brow. If you don’t have a strong hairline or thinning hair this treatment might not be recommended.

Endoscopic Brow Lift

The use of endoscopes gives way to less invasive treatments. During an endoscopy procedure, several small incisions, no longer than an inch, are made close to the hairline. A tiny camera at the end of a thin tube will be inserted to allow the surgeon to operate via a monitor. Other tubes are inserted that will perform the necessary surgical steps to correct the cosmetic problem. Sutures are placed underneath the skin to help lessen the scars. The healing from this technique is quicker compared to the classic brow lifts. This procedure requires specific equipment so going to the hospital will be necessary.

Coronal Brow Lift

An incision that hides the scar within the hair area is the coronal brow lift. The cut is made from one ear to the other, running along a few inches above the patient’s hairline. The eyebrows are then repositioned to correct the tired, aging appearance by pulling the muscles up. With this technique, the hairline is also positioned higher.

Is Botox a Better Option than a Brow Lift?

Botox is a non-surgical cosmetic treatment that targets forehead wrinkles. While it does an exceptional job of smoothing out lines and wrinkles on the forehead and around the eyes, it does not correct drooping of the skin folds around the eyes. Depending on the patient’s case, Botox is worth trying initially to see if this treatment satisfies the patient’s aesthetic goals. If Botox does little to the cosmetic issue, then a brow lift may be considered. Many patients benefit from a combination approach using surgery and Botox to attain the desired outcome.
A brow lift recovery is anywhere from 3 to 7 days of recovery based on the technique used. Patients are sent home after surgery and advised to limit movement for a couple of days. There will be some bruising and swelling that may be present. Strenuous activities must be avoided for at least 6 weeks. Within 3 – 6 months, patients will see the optimized results, and look and feel younger with a rejuvenated outcome.

Brow Lift FAQS

Facelift vs. BrowLift?

The plastic surgeon will initially evaluate the problem areas on the face and recommend the best approach. A brow lift enhancement is confined within the upper area of the face while a facelift also improves the appearance of the lower area of the face including the chin and the cheeks. Depending on the severity of the wrinkles and the sagging, a full facelift may be a better approach.
